Each year, the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut presents the Eastern Connecticut Social Service Awards, recognizing agency staff and volunteers who have gone above and beyond in their duties, as nominated by industry peers. At the 12th Annual Social Service Recognition Breakfast, we honored Bill Briggs as Volunteer of the Year.
Briggs is currently the Volunteer Site Director for Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut. In this role he has a chance to work with volunteers on housing projects across the eastern region. Briggs is local to Storrs, Connecticut, and is a proud graduate of Franklin & Marshall College, Class of 1969.
“I have a long history in the building business,” says Briggs, “I really enjoy building, as well as working with others, and helping provide homes for people.”
His expertise in the field is matched by a drive for social service. Briggs believes giving back is important for many reasons, including “a chance to work with others and gain some sense of being able to make a difference in the world around us…It’s an opportunity to pitch in, to meet needs that would not be otherwise addressed.”
Briggs also notes his continual gratitude for the kind hearted and interesting people he works with on a daily basis.
