On July 10, 2024, the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT proudly celebrated the graduation of the Leadership Eastern CT Class of 2024 at Hilton Mystic. This milestone marked the culmination of a transformative two-year journey for 38 diverse individuals through an esteemed regional program that prepares promising leaders for positions of responsibility within our community.

Relishing the Journey

The first of three thematic pillars shared by keynote speaker Dr. Tracy Espy, President of Mitchell College, was the importance of relishing the leadership journey. Leadership is not just about overcoming challenges but also about savoring the moments of triumph and growth. Emphasizing the significance of gratitude, Dr. Espy reminded graduates to appreciate the opportunity to lead and serve others, fostering a positive and fulfilling work environment.

Reflecting on Experiences

Graduates were encouraged to pause and consider their lessons learned, challenges overcome, and values that drive them forward. The power of reflection lies not only in personal growth, but also in enhancing the collective success of the organization and enriching one’s leadership circle. By fostering self-awareness and empathy, leaders can create a supportive environment that empowers everyone to grow together.

Releasing Knowledge

Ceremony speeches also highlighted the significance of circulating knowledge. Echoing Dr. Espy’s remarks, Craig Koenigsknecht of General Dynamics Electric Boat and Co-president of the Class of 2024 emphasized how the value of one’s experience multiplies when shared with others, especially through the unique and sometimes unexpected connections offered in the program. Graduates were urged to take their newfound wisdom and release it into the world to uplift and inspire those around them.

Miria Gray of Chelsea Groton Bank and Co-president of the Class of 2024 spoke about the class service project. Constructing an outdoor patio to benefit clients of The Arc of Eastern CT stood as a testament to the power of collective effort and the impact of leadership in action. Despite challenges, the class’s determination, problem-solving skills, networking, and dedicated teamwork resulted in a beautiful and functional space that will serve the community for many years.

A Continuous Journey

As the ceremony drew to a close, the graduates were reminded that leadership is not a destination, but a continuous journey. The friendships forged, challenges faced, and lessons learned throughout the program have equipped them with the tools to be effective and compassionate leaders. Leadership Eastern CT fosters the region’s future changemakers, problem solvers, and community leaders.

In Gratitude and Anticipation

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Leadership Eastern CT Class of 2024. As you embark on your next chapter, may you continue to relish the journey, reflect on your experiences, and release your knowledge to uplift others. Let’s strive to create a better future for Eastern Connecticut and beyond.

Here’s to the leaders of today and tomorrow – thank you and congratulations on your remarkable achievement!
