Celebrating Leadership and Community Impact
The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut is pleased to announce Jeffrey ‘Jeff’ Hamilton, President and General Manager of Mohegan Sun, as the 74th Annual Citizen of the Year. This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to both the business and civic communities of the region.
Chamber staff surprised Hamilton with the announcement during a Tribal Council Meeting on February 11 at the Mohegan Community and Government Center.
“It is with great honor that we present Jeff with our 74th Annual Citizen of the Year award,” said Chamber President Tony Sheridan. “His unwavering commitment to both the success of Mohegan Sun and the betterment of our community reflects the true spirit of what it means to be a leader.”

Meet Jeff Hamilton
Jeff Hamilton, a member of the Mohegan Tribe, has built an impressive career spanning over two decades at Mohegan Sun. He holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree, earned from Seton Hall University and the University of New Haven.
Before stepping into his current role as President and General Manager, Hamilton served as Assistant General Manager and held key leadership positions in Mohegan Sun’s Advertising and Human Resources departments. Today, he oversees strategic planning, project development, marketing, fiscal planning, technology, and visitor experience while ensuring the casino’s overall success.
“I have been blessed to work alongside so many great people over the last 20 years who have assisted and guided me in my career at Mohegan Sun and in my community work. I look forward to celebrating with many of those special people in May.”
A Commitment to Community and Philanthropy
Beyond his leadership at Mohegan Sun, Hamilton is deeply committed to community service. He serves on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, where he received the Chairman’s Award of Excellence for increasing employee participation by 23% in the 2019-20 United Way Campaign.
His philanthropic efforts also extend to organizations such as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (CT Chapter), Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) State of CT Advisory Council, and the State of Connecticut Tourism Council.
Additionally, Jeff has played a key role in supporting The Governor’s Prevention Partnership, a public-private initiative that combats substance and alcohol abuse among youth through mentorship and generous contributions from Mohegan Sun and the Tribe.
A Well-Deserved Honor
Hamilton joins a distinguished group of past honorees, including Mike Buscetto (Filomena’s; Cactus Jack Foundation), Chief Lynn Malerba (Mohegan Tribe; Former U.S. Treasurer), and Dr. John Burkhardt (Pfizer, Retired).
“I am truly honored to be recognized by the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT as Citizen of the Year,” said Hamilton. “I have been blessed to work alongside so many great people over the last 20 years who have assisted and guided me in my career at Mohegan Sun and in my community work.
