On Saturday, August 17 from 10 am to 2pm, Groton-New London Airport welcomes the public to an Open House and Walking Tour. The sixth annual event offers tours of airport facilities, static aircraft displays, drone demonstrations, introduction to pilots, aviation/aerospace organizations and careers, and scenic flight rides for purchase. Cafe 511 on-airport will be open for breakfast and lunch, too. The airport will be offering the opportunity for people to apply for passports—first time and renewal applications accepted. U.S. Coast Guard operations at the airport will share mission and program information.
Groton-New London Airport facilitates thousands of operations a year and is an important economic driver. The airport serves general aviation, corporate jets, recreational and tourist-related flights. It offers private charter flights, underwater egress training for pilots and passengers, and houses the Army National Guard’s 1109 Theatre Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group. Groton-New London supports 837 jobs with $33.8 million in labor income, $108 million in economic output and generates $6.54 million in state taxes.
The Chamber, working with the Connecticut Airport Authority, is facilitating a survey to support returning commercial flights to the airport. Businesses are asked to share their annual travel expenditures and top destinations. Businesses can participate in the survey by clicking here.
